Some interesting reflections on Amazon’s purchase of Goodreads. I only recently joined Goodreads because I’m pretty hooked into the Amazon system for e-books. Print books I usually buy from a local book store.
One of the interesting tidbits here is that Amazon has a minority stake in LibraryThing, so moving all of your stuff there doesn’t insulate you from Amazon’s influence. For the record, I love LibraryThing as a tool to quickly and painless set up a web-browsable catalog for small libraries with decent internet connections.
Overall though, it is disturbing to see so much market concentration in the internet/publishing world.
