@GrimsbyLibrary’s poster of the Grimsby Grows Seed Library, Ontario, Canada, has a lot of great information, such as start-up cost at less than $500 and usage of the open-source SourceForge database.

Why are seed libraries becoming popular?  Besides food and environmental sustainability, the quote at the bottom of their Seed Library webpage say’s it all:

If you think in terms of a year, plant a seed; if in terms of ten years, plant trees; if in terms of 100 years, teach the people. -Confucius”

See this previous post for more info about the growth of seed libraries.

More about seed libraries. How can you have a seed library when the seeds are not returnable? Have people save a full fully mature plants and give those back to the library.

It will be interesting to see how these alternative programs in libraries work out.
