This is an effort to focus national attention on areas of need within digital preservation. The executive summary is seven pages and the full report is 31 pages. So far I’ve only worked through the executive summary, but I think that I’ll try and at least read the infrastructure and research sections of the main report.

One point made by the authors is that we don’t have a lot of research in digital preservation. I agree. It is a young field and we all have a lot to learn. That’s part of why I’m all for digitization for access, but want to see tangible copies kept when possible. At least until we can point to 30-50 years of consistent preservation of digital materials.
