DPL Connect: Denver’s Mobile Bike Library
The Denver Public Library has a new set of wheels. No, it’s not a new car. It’s a mobile library on a bike.
The bike – complete with a Wi-Fi hotspot and stocked with books – will be hitting the streets of Denver Wednesday. Its official title is, “DPL Connect.”
The librarian riding the bike can help passersby with research, digital downloads and reading suggestions. Denver residents can also register for library cards with the book mobile.
Initially, the mobile library will be giving away the books for people to read. The Denver Public Library hopes the bike will operate as a full-service library, complete with the ability to check out materials, in the future.
The idea surfaced during a contest to submit an out-of-the-box idea for the library.
It’s a bike AND a library AND a wifi hotspot! Can I reiterate how badly I want to work for DPL??
I loved Denver when I visited a few years back. This looks like a cool and affordable idea. In Alaska it would have to be a seasonal activity.
