The library switches to an Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) in 1992. Library Administrator Bernard Oppenneer ceremoniously dumps the card catalog files in the garbage.
At my library, we used the catalog cards as scratch paper. It lasted for years. Tis better to recycle, in my view.
Random fact, I’m old enough that I filed catalog cards – Title, Author and Subject for each title when I was in undergrad. (Cue “Rock the Casbah”)
