Neal-Schuman Grants

The first three results of the Neal-Schuman grants are in, and all are successful.

  • Salem – South Lyon, Michigan was successful in its vote to create an independent taxing district for the library.
  • Long Beach, California was successful in reversing city government plans to raze the Central Library and build a smaller central library far from the center of town.  At this point, the Long Beach Public Library will not only remain in the City Civic Plaza but will receive funding for renovations and expansion.
  • Gilmanton, New Hampshire was successful in its vote to put the library’s operating budget in the town’s budget, no longer dependent upon fundraising and donations.

[Daniel – It is great to hear encouraging news. Especially about Long Beach.]

This was excerpted from EBD # 12.20 2013-2014 Report to Council and Executive Board April 4, 2014 from Keith Michael Fiels Executive Director.
